Ace Paragraph:
In the poem, "In a Station of the Metro", Ezra Pound, suggests the idea that time is temporary, yet forever through the use of parallelism of diction, as well as, the visual structure of the poem. Ezra operates the words "these faces" in parallel to "petals" in the first and second line of this poem, in order to relate them. This demonstrates that the faces are identical similar to how petals on a flower look exactly the same. The people are all blurred together in this metro station, simply passing through, as they are temporarily there. Additionally, he parallels the words "crowd" and "wet black bough" as they both evoke the vision of simultaneous, seamless, continuation of a cluster of movement. The word wet implies that although wet now, it may be dry later, again, furthering the idea that time continues on and is a perception of temporary ideas and things. Moreover, Pound structures the poem to relay an image of a metro and the motion of it, for the poem is only two lines. Like a subway comes and goes in a flash, the poem reflects the speed as it is a quick read, yet its message is complex. |
